Solutions Engineering Hangout: Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and vRealize Orchestrator

Learn how to maintain your VMware tooling investments while upgrading your provisioning agility with Terraform.

Speakers

Adopting infrastructure as code in the enterprise isn't as easy as adopting a new tool. Mature organizations have often invested a lot of work into their infrastructure and the automation around it, typically in on-premises environments. How do you adopt modern, faster infrastructure-as-code practices without losing that investment?

A decade ago, many companies invested heavily in adopting VMware technologies as usage of virtualization exploded. Terraform, a modern tool for provisioning infrastructure as code, can integrate with existing VMware investments so that you can explore the benefits of infra as code without having to completely re-tool.

In this webinar, HashiCorp solutions engineer Arslan Saeed teaches viewers how to use VMware's vRealize Orchestrator (vRO) to interface with HashiCorp Terraform, allowing you to create vRO (and vRA) Workflows and Actions that can easily provision infrastructure using one Terraform-driven workflow for on-prem or cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP and several others.

Questions answered

  • When Arslan attempted to run the vRO demo again a second time for "demo-1", why did it fail? Do you have to rename the "demo" everytime?

  • Are there any vendor lock-in concerns with using Terraform?

  • Can you revert to a prevoius state from the "States" tab?
