Abstraction of technical systems is essential for reducing complexity, improving maintainability, reducing risk, and enhancing usability and is critical for everything from programming languages to SaaS. When done well, these varied offerings increase usability and adoption and can increase scalability. By establishing clear and measurable targets, we can more adequately control and design better infrastructure for both optimization and innovation.
