Announcing the Launch of HashiCorp’s Early Career Program
In this blog, we share details about the new HashiCorp Early Career Program.
You can trace the beginnings of HashiCorp to November 2008 when Armon Dadgar and Mitchell Hashimoto were students at the University of Washington. Armon and Mitchell were working on a research project to make the groundbreaking public cloud technologies being developed by Amazon, Microsoft, and other Seattle-based companies available to scientists. Little did they know that the failed project would become the groundwork of HashiCorp years later.
In the Origin Story, Armon recalls, “…it was a learning experience as we went through a bad idea after a bad idea. Ultimately, we ended up abandoning it and both moved to San Francisco and working at the same mobile ad company, which I think—funnily enough—we found that years later many of those cloud problems were still there.”
Armon and Mitchell went on to found HashiCorp with a portfolio of four core products – Terraform, Vault, Consul, and Nomad. Along with the high demand for our products, both commercial and open-source versions, our employee workforce sky-rocketed from 300 employees to 1,000 in the last 1.5 years across Europe, Australia, Asia, and North America. To put it into perspective, that is an average of 39 hires per month.
Over 85% of our employee workforce has been remote since day one and with a global shift to remote work across many industries, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, has only affirmed that we are moving in the right direction. While we have a head start, however, it is not lost on us that there is no one right way to work remotely.
In thinking about our next step during the new norm in which we find ourselves, we recognize our obligation and privilege in building the next generation of technology experts to broaden our horizons and bring diverse backgrounds and experiences to the world of multi-cloud. We also recognize the value of innovation and entrepreneurship as seen with Armon and Mitchell in 2008 as students, then 2012 as new grads.
And that is why we are excited to announce HashiCorp’s Early Career Program. We have a unique opportunity to build a program that is inclusive of individuals with non-traditional paths to the tech space. In recruiting, we often find that the best candidates do not necessarily come from top-tier universities or companies, but from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Our first cohort of student interns are expected to join us virtually for summer 2021 followed by new grads in summer 2022. Under the guidance of expert project leaders and peer mentors, interns will take on projects that help companies solve some of the world’s biggest security and infrastructure challenges.
Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in product certification programs and work on projects that they are able to add to their portfolios. In tandem, students will have the opportunity to learn about business communication and professionalism, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and job interviewing skills.
As we embark on this journey, we hope students and new grads are as excited as we are about the launch of our Early Career Program.
